Club History

In the 60's and 70's, Model A Fords were everywhere. You could buy any complete car or truck for $200! If you wanted, you could join an antique car club. However, these clubs catered to any and all makes and models.

Most of us who had Model A's weren't getting the info we needed to build our cars, or to know where to get the parts locally. Over several years, many of us shared the knowledge of Doug Zahn, a seller of Model A parts, and a storehouse of information about Model A's. Our circle of Model A owners started meeting on weekends at Doug's house to gain the information we needed. It was fun, informative, and we made new friends with mutual interests.

"Hey, why don't we start our own club - just for Model A's?" I think Doug asked that. Sounded good. While meeting at Doug's, we began discovering what we had to do to become an official club of the Model A Ford Club of America. A minimum of 5 members were required for National membership. We started in 1977 with Doug Zahn, Jon Haydon, Charlie Butler, Don Close, and Jerry Coates. Raymond Harrill, an attorney, assisted us with the membership process, and made certain we did what was required legally by the MAFCA organization. In March 1978, Raymond completed the legal application, with our proposed name #Fiftieth Anniversary Model A Club of Little Rock, Arkansas." (The name was derived as Model A's were officially introduced in 1928.) Our application was approved, and we received our charter in March 1979.
